What is this course about?

Revit Architecture Fundamentals will introduce you to the fundamentals of BIM (Building Information Modelling) and Revit Architecture.

Course Objectives

Explore the world of Building Information Modeling (BIM) using Revit Architecture through an engaging, project-driven learning experience. You will begin by getting acquainted with Revit’s interface and essential tools, applying what you learn to construct a complete architectural project. We will guide you step-by-step in creating parametric Revit models for walls, doors, windows, floors, and roofs, all within the context of your project.

Additionally, you will learn how to utilize Revit’s BIM capabilities to automatically generate vital construction documentation, including floor plans, elevations, sections, and schedules, directly from your project model. We will also cover annotation and dimensioning techniques within Revit, ensuring that your project drawings are accurate and professional.

By the end of this course, you will have a fully developed Revit project portfolio piece, showcasing your proficiency and establishing a solid foundation for exploring advanced Revit features in future architectural projects.

Basic Modeling: Walls and Levels
This module dives into the fundamental building blocks of Architectural Modeling. Students will learn how to create and modify walls, understand the importance of levels and grids for project organization, and practice accurate placement using temporary dimensions. This module focuses on establishing the basic shell of a building.

Introduction to Modelling a House in Revit
We will be developing a Revit model of a house. We will be modelling Walls, Floors, and Roofs. We'll insert Doors, Windows and Wall Openings. We will learn how to use various tools in the process of developing the House Project.

Setting Up the Project
In this series of topics, you will learn how to set up a new project, learn about selecting a Project Template, setting up True North and Geographic North, Setting up levels

Developing Floor Plans
In this lesson, developing Floor Plans, we will develop floor plans, starting from a single room to a complete floor Plan. We will add walls, Floors, Doors and Windows to develop floor plans. We will add Rooms and Wall Openings.

Creating Floors
Creating floors in Revit Architecture is a fundamental skill, enabling you to define the horizontal planes of your building model with precision. This topic will guide you through the process of generating various floor types, from basic structural slabs to complex finished floor systems. We'll start by exploring the tools for sketching floor boundaries, ensuring accurate placement and defining the floor's shape. You'll learn to assign different floor types, understanding the properties and materials associated with each. We'll also cover techniques for creating openings in floors for stairs, shafts, and other penetrations.

Modelling Openings
Expanding on the building shell, this module focuses on inserting and manipulating doors and windows. Learners will explore different types of doors and windows, learn how to adjust their properties, and understand how to tag them for scheduling purposes. This module adds the essential elements that define openings within the building.

Understanding Rooms
Revit uses special elements called Tags. We'll use Rooms and Room Tags to create Rooms. Rooms have a special set of properties, that report Room Number, Area, Perimeter. We will learn about placing Rooms and their properties.

Creating Sections and Elevations
Generating Sections and Elevations in Revit Architecture is a crucial step, not just in producing comprehensive construction documentation, but help in understanding the spaces we have designed. These views, created by strategically placing section lines and elevation markers within the 3D model, offer essential vertical insights into the building's design. Sections expose the internal relationships between building elements, revealing structural and spatial configurations, while elevations depict the exterior or interior vertical facades, showcasing the building's form and detailing. Revit's dynamic linking ensures that any modifications to the model are automatically reflected in these views, maintaining accuracy and consistency. By controlling depth, extents, and detail levels, users tailor these views to specific documentation needs, effectively conveying design intent, construction details, and spatial relationships to all stakeholders. These views are indispensable for accurate construction, coordination, and ultimately, a successful project outcome.

Creating Roofs
This tutorial provides a comprehensive overview of creating roofs in Revit, covering both Flat and Sloping roof designs. You will explore the tools and parameters within Revit that allow you to define roof footprints, control slope angles, and attach roofs to walls. The tutorial will also delve into the properties of different roof types and how to modify them to meet specific project requirements. By the end of this section, you will be able to confidently create a variety of roof styles for your architectural models.

Site and Topography
In this set of lessons, you will learn about modelling site in Revit using "Toposolids". We will be Modelling Roads, Paths, Swimming Pool and Landscape elements.

Creating 3D Views
In this series of lessons, you will learn about creating Exterior and Interior 3D Views. In addition, you will learn about creating 3D Plan and Section views

Understanding and Creating Curtain Walls
This topic will help you learn about Curtain Walls. How to use Curtain Walls. How to create louvered Walls and pergolas

Working with Visual Styles
This topic covers various Graphic Display Options. Settings in Graphic Display influence the way views are displayed. You will learn about different settings

Creating Presentation Drawings
In this series of lessons you will learn how to create a set of Presentation Drawings set. Creating a set of drawings on Revit is a process. Using this process is the most efficient way to create a set of drawings, be it Presentation or Construction Drawings. You will learn how to create a Sheet List, Create Sheets, Add views to sheets.

Modelling Ceiling Plans and adding Lights
In this series of lessons, you will learn about modelling ceilings. Understand various types of ceilings and how to modify them to create coves. You will learn about various types of ceilings. Adding lighting fixtures as well as MEP fixtures such as HVAC Air Terminals and sprinklers.
